Basic Diver
Do you want to try diving in confined and open waters without committing to a longer course? If so, the SSI Basic Diver course is for you! This course is the perfect way to learn beginner scuba diving skills and go open water diving for the first time. Get started today!
What you can expect to learn
In the SSI Basic Diver program, you will learn the skills and knowledge you need to try diving up to 12 meters deep with an SSI Professional. It is a great way to explore the underwater world more fully as you try diving. The entire Basic Diver program can be credited towards the Scuba Diver or Open Water Dive programs within 6 months, so you can take the next step in your dive adventure.
The SSI Basic Diver course consists of three main phases:
- One Academic Sessions (Independent study or in a classroom)- This is primarily to understand the basic principles of scuba diving and the functions of scuba equipment.
- One Pool/Confined Water Sessions- Dives conducted in swimming pools, to help you master essential underwater and equipment skills
- One Open Water Training Dive- Where its time to use the knowledge and skills you acquired, in the open ocean to complete the SSI Scuba Diver Course.
Course equipment requirements
During all in-water scuba training, each student must be equipped with a properly fitted Total Diving System:
• Mask
• Snorkel
• Fins
• Buoyancy compensator with power inflator
• Weight System
• Delivery System with cylinder, primary regulator and alternate air source
• Information System with submersible pressure gauge, depth gauge, and timing device (a dive computer is recommended)
• Exposure suit appropriate for the environment
• Logbook
*Equipment will be provided by your Dive Centre. We recommend that you should get your own gear once you become a certified diver.
